    1.Project PurposeThrough the NCKU career development grant for international faculty, the University aims to cultivate a robust research environment for our international faculty. By encouraging innovation, interdisciplinary collaboration, global engagement, and grounded practice, the University aims to strengthen international partnerships and elevate the standards of NCKU’s academic research.

    2.Eligibility Criteria and Team Composition(1)To foster interdisciplinary collaboration, the principal investigator and co-principal investigator of the project team shall comprise a minimum of three members drawn from at least two different colleges within the university.
    (2)Eligibility of the principal investigator:eligible candidates shall be international tenured assistant professors and assistant research fellows or above.
    (3)Eligibility of co-principal investigator:
    A.Tenured assistant professors and assistant research fellows or above.
    B.Clinical assistant professors and above in affiliated hospitals.
    C.Faculty and research fellows from overseas institutions.

    3.Project Application Details(1) Project framework: A multi-year integrated project (review and approve annually).
    (2) Project implementation period: A two-year project, commencing on March 1, 2025 and concluding on February 28, 2027, with annual reviews and approvals.
    (3) Proposals shall offer novel concepts and cannot be based on previously submitted work, whether within or outside the institution. A newly constituted research team is required.
    (4) To formulate research proposals that identify and analyze critical future social issues, considering their multifaceted nature and alignment with national development strategies. These proposals shall present innovative technological or policy solutions that can be effectively implemented and promoted.
    (5) To establish robust international research partnerships with overseas universities and academic research institutions.

    4.Details of the Project Proposal(1)Guided by the preceding guidelines and in alignment with SDGs, this proposal shall incorporate an abstract, keywords, a background review, an integration strategy, a research methodology, specific objectives, an overall budget plan (necessity of this funding), a performance evaluation framework (key breakthroughs, external benefits, and future planning), and references (limited to 10 pages).
    (2) Principal investigator information: A completed NSTC research project personal profile, along with a list of up to five significant publications within the past five years, as evidenced by their scholarly contributions to the field or related to the proposal.

    5.Review Process and Criteria(1)Review process: The proposal will undergo a written review by a panel of experts in related fields. The principal investigator and team members may be required to give an oral presentation.
    (2)Evaluation system:
    A.Number of research grants obtained.
    B.Number of international engagements (ex. short visit, participation in international organizations, and international academic presentations).
    C.Research accomplishments(ex.international co-authored publications).
    D.Supplementary qualitative and quantitative metrics for assessing research advancement.

    6.Principles Governing Grant Support, Approval, and Utilization(1)Eligible expenses:Grant funds may be used for general expenses, abroad travel expenses, and capital expenditures.
    (2)Grant amount:A maximum annual grant amount per project is NT$1 million.
    (3)Grant funds shall be sourced from the Ministry of Education's subsidized projects, the University’s endowment fund, or donations. The use of grant funds shall comply with the University’s financial regulations and specific terms and conditions of the funding source.

    7.Evaluation of Achievements(1)An annual progress report shall be submitted by the specified deadline announced by the ORD. In addition, an oral presentation shall also be conducted. Both the report and presentation will be reviewed by internal and external experts. The review results will determine whether funding will be continued for the following year.
    (2)All team members are required to participate in the annual research showcase of the grant.

    8.Application Procedure(1)The Principal Investigator shall submit the following documents to the ORD for application in accordance with the following regulations. Applications with incomplete or non-compliant documents will not be accepted.
    A.Project Proposal.
    B.A bound volume containing the overall project proposal and personal profiles of the PI and Co-PIs.
    (2)Applications will be accepted online from the grant announcement date to February 7, 2025 (Friday). All applications shall be submitted to the appointed application link by the deadline. Late applications will not be considered.
